I found a diamond in the grass
I could have missed it
and walked past
but it caught my eye
I could have dismissed it
let it lie
This diamond

Like a crystal shard
clear and bright
and hard
it caught the light
a glimmer, among broken glass
this diamond
in the grass

Who dropped this thing
and let it lay
what truth or fatal sting
that I might come along today
and find it
this diamond
lying by the way

What if I now this diamond take
not my belonging
but I may from it make
what e'r I will
a truth perhaps, a question yet to ask
and leave this diamond
lying in the grass.
