Seeds

Within each of us, there lies a darkness and a light,
for without the one, how can we know the other.
The light is like a healer, a builder and maker of form,
Yet the darkness is like to a beast which would rend.

And as the light holds forth the hand of love,
so too does the beast extend the claw of hatred.
For every act of peace, gentle kindness and of giving,
the beast would have war and envy and greed.

So seen, as the spark of life within,
as a whole,
both the flame and the ash
are but a reflection of the greater soul..

Despise therfore not the beast,
and elevate not the light lest we be blinded,
for this light, which fondly,
we hold to be ours, is but a part.

For the beast within also, is a child of the mother of shadow,
we make for it to lie undead in but a shallow grave,
and create no stirring, lest the beast awake.
Know ye the beast!

Too long, and too often is the light put to the top of the watchtower,
and the beast consigned to the dungeon,
and never the twain, though reaching, and aching to touch,
can ever in justice meet.

Yet nothing else, here, within the lonely outlook keep,
to tend the light should it falter,
but the beast.
And symbiote perhaps, the light, yet feeds the beast.

And so the opposing and sometime contradiction must be resolved,
this pair, this sibling twin,
must each respond as one,
each to sustain the other.

Who is this mother of shadow, who suggests,
but a contrast of one against the other,
light against dark, silver upon sable,
the harmony of the soul, and the twin shall do her will.

Harm no-one, this is the whole of the law. Do what ye will
Let it be.
